Linda Greenhouse on Arlen Specter: Salt in the Wound?
Linda Greenhouse wrote a column yesterday in the NYT Online in which she points out several blatant inconsistencies in Arlen Specter’s record with respect to legal issues. She makes some excellent points, but it has a “salt in the wound” feel to it, of course, given Specter’s loss in the PA Democratic primary on Tuesday. Perhaps Specter is deserving of this sort of criticism, given his history of political “bobbing and weaving.” Yes, many politicians do this, but Specter took it to a new level. He talked a big game to, for instance, the Bush administration on issues of executive power, but when push came to shove, he always seemed to back down (Greenhouse covers this). And need I even mention the basis for his switch to the Democratic party?
