Iron Maiden: Religious Obscurantists

Q. What do Julio Iglesias and 10cc have in common?

Answer below the fold.

Objectionable neo-fascism.

Or so thought the censors of the Soviet Union, who banned their music on that basis.

Pink Floyd were banned for “distorting Soviet foreign policy.” The Village People were too “violent.” (!) And Donna Summer was banned for “eroticism,” though I would have thought that “basic suckiness” would have been reason enough.

I give Donna Summer lots of points for having moved to another country (Germany), learned the language, built a career there… That’s not an easy thing to do (speaking as someone who’s BT and attempted to DT…), so my hat goes off to anyone who’s even tried.

OK, Cathy, fair enough. On the other hand, Rob and Fab made the trip in the other direction.

    Just sayin’.

Yeah, but are we sure *they* actually learned English?
